🍯 Proverbs 18:21🍯
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
What do you use your words for? Blessing or cursing? Choosing your words to bless your family, friends, neighbors and even strangers with kind words creates life in them. There will be times when we will be faced with someone who will say something rude, painful or hurtful. It’s easy to fall into that trap of retaliation. As one grows older with experience and wisdom, you learn retaliation only makes it worse. I believe it’s also one of the tactics the ‘enemy’ uses to trap you into losing your inner peace. By retaliating, you are taking several steps back spiritually. You’ll learn a little bit more each time not to lose your peace or joy over someone else’s choice to curse you with their words. One day in a nail salon, there was a woman who was extremely rude to me. I thought for a second and instead of retaliating with rude words back, I said to her, “well I hope you have a great day.” What do you think her response was to me was? Well, instead of saying “thank you” or just merely moving on, she became even more aggressive. I am guessing she expected for me to say something rude back….SO she cursed me; and even tried to insult me by saying, “well at least I have my natural nails” and stormed off. I laughed it off instead of allowing her to trap me. My immediate reaction was to say a quick prayer for her in my thoughts. I thought maybe I didn’t know what she was going through personally. Maybe she was in some kind of turmoil in her life. I learned that many times you don’t know what a person is going through or has gone through….I know it’s easier said than done. It also doesn’t excuse their choice of words. I have been exercising this very principle from past experiences and applying it to my everyday life. It feels good to encourage someone or others with words of hope because it makes me feel happy too. Someone will always have “something” to say. Wouldn’t you rather for someone to remember something kind or encouraging that you said to them? Then to have them remember you as someone who said something to discourage, hurt or break their spirit? Remember that words of cursing will hinder you and hold you back. But words of blessing will push you forward. Speak words that are as sweet as honey. You never know who you might come across and just with your words, you can save that person’s life. ~Tanya South
“Do not let corrupting talk come out of your mouth. Let everything you say be good, helpful and uplifting so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
Who can do without a little encouragement? My belief is no one. Every person gets their spirit built up and pushed to be better with encouraging words. Imagine living in a world with no hate, no anger toward one another; more forgiveness; in a world filled with people who are all different but can accept each other’s differences. What is one simple act we can do to make the world better? Encouragement. Encouragement is the rock and foundation of hope. Encourage someone today…mom, dad, a sister, a brother, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker even a stranger. Words of encouragement are life giving and life saving words. In Proverbs 12:18- “The words of the reckless pierce like a sword, but the words of the wise are healing.” Words of encouragement lead to dreams eventually coming true. How many of you remember someone like a teacher encouraging you? I remember my second grade teacher, Mrs. Cavalier. She entered me into the school spelling bee contest. I didn’t understand why she picked me? I didn’t even realize that I was that good of a speller for her to consider me. I was nervous and almost did not want to do it. It was not until then, I realized I was indeed a pretty good speller. The contestants were also from higher grades. She encouraged me to do it. It was because of her encouragement that built up my confidence to do more spelling bee contests in the school. Her encouraging words were so uplifting for me. When you in turn encourage someone, you don’t realize that is one of the greatest gifts that you can give a person. Especially living in a world full of brokenness, discouragement and hopelessness. We need more people in the world to encourage one another. Let’s build one another up! ~Tanya South
“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
When you walk in love, everything else falls into place. Love is the only thing that doesn’t hurt. It makes you feel safe, love protects. Love makes you happy and is worry free. Love is the only thing that doesn’t cause you sadness or anxiety. Many people associate being heart broken because of love. But love doesn’t break your heart, loves eases your pain. Love comforts you. For instance, God’s love for us is perfect. He wants the best for us. God covers you with His love. God works His love through us. Walking in love makes everything easier. There is a lot of hurt and pain in this world. Love is the ointment on a wound that heals. Think of the little children who feel loved by their parents, they do better overall in everything. They do good in school, they are happy, they sleep soundly at night, they feel safe. You see, love makes everything all better. ~Tanya South
James 2:14-18 ~
“What good is it, my brothers & sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no action behind it? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes & daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm & well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have action’ Show me your faith without action & I will show you my faith by my actions”.
Are you stuck in a situation that you’re uncomfortable in by choice? But you are afraid of change? God wants us to live an extraordinary life. He doesn’t want us settling for less or to have a mediocre life. He placed in all of us a spirit of power and not fear (2 Timothy 1:7). He wants our life to be filled with great health, great relationships, great jobs, and a life filled with abundance. Trust in the Lord and take that leap of faith. Have courage and act behind your faith. You won’t get that job that you really want, if you don’t go after it with perseverance. You won’t get that promotion by leaving on time everyday and have an attitude of, “oh that’s not part of my job, so I’m not doing it.” If you have a business that you want to grow and want it to succeed but you’re never there; then your business will suffer. You won’t lose that extra weight you gained over the holidays if you don’t exercise daily, acquire healthy habits and do something about it. Or you want a good relationship but you don’t invest quality time in it and nurture it….The list can go on. Make a positive change if you’re not where you want to be. God gives you the signs, the obstacles or people who try to help you. Never stop where you are, keep on going. Just like the seasons; fall, winter, spring and summer; we must always try to change for the better and evolve. Change is good. Make a move and always pray on it with belief that the next step will be even better. In the end, giving credit to Him, because without Him, nothing is possible. ~Tanya South
“Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “ ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you & given to a people who will produce its fruit. Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed”
Everything is not always what it appears to be. How many times have you been rejected in your life? Rejected for a job, a project or by a person. This may sound a little confusing but rejection can be an amazing thing. I believe it is a way of God saying, ‘I don’t want this route for you. I have a better route for you to take.’ Those obstacles you keep having are God’s way of saying, ‘don’t go that way; it’s the wrong way. I need you to go the other way.’ It’s your path in the right direction and road trip to dream destination.
Rejection is also something that God allows to happen to us because he is forcing you to do more research, to grow, to understand better. Remember, that God wants the absolute best for you. His plan always supersedes our owns thoughts and plans for our life. I was laid off from what I thought was a great paying job. I couldn’t understand why that happened to me. Deep feelings of discouragement settled into my spirit. But I prayed to God for clarity and answers. Little did I know that my future job would be one where I found favor with supervisors and even the owner of the company. Eventually, I made four times as much money, I traveled and networked with so many others. I never imagined this could happen for me. God had a better job lined up for me. He not only superseded my expectations of just merely working; He blessed me with a dream job. My new employer saw talent in me and pushed me to be at my best. Rejection is a detour and a redirection to your dreams coming true.
The times I thought I was being rejected, was in fact, just a detour and redirection to something so much better. When you are rejected, rejoice! “Everything happens for a reason.” You will have your answers and clarity in the future as long as you don’t give up. Think of the three R’s:
Rejection ➡️ Re-routed ➡️ Rejoice! ~Tanya South
“Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.”
Just like blueprints to building a new house or building, draw your “blueprints” for your life; your wishes and plans. Then work toward completing them. Just thinking or wishing will not bring you to it, whatever it is (new business, new venture, health journey, new love, healthy relationship). You certainly can wish it, but pray for God to give you the wisdom, strength, courage and/or provision to make it come to pass. When God sees you working toward it, with perseverance, effort, Faith and action behind your faith; he will then put his divine hand on it to help you to your finish line. Just start! ~Tanya South
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?I will make a pathway through the wilderness.I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
God sent his only son to save the world. Jesus Christ is the living Lord of lords and King of kings. He represents the new covenant and new beginning for those who believe. He represents “redemption.” He is our “Redeemer.” Jesus wiped away our sin so that we may be saved. We are all given a chance for redemption and a new beginning. A new beginning to trying again to work toward what you thought were “broken” dreams. Some people might think, ‘I’ve done many bad things’, ‘I’ve made too many mistakes’, ‘I can never right my wrongs.’ No one can change the past, but you can choose what kind of future you will have. You may ask how? Praying to God, asking for his forgiveness and recognizing his guidance in your life. When God forgives you he doesn’t go back, he goes forward. He doesn’t remind you of your past, he promises you a future. He gives you redemption through his Grace and mercy. It’s your chance for a “new beginning.” It is your old self with your old ways which dies. Your new self is just that, “new.” You are born once again under the new covenant which was gifted to us when Jesus sacrificed himself. You start your life anew. It’s a new way of believing, a new way of thinking, a new way of living. It’s your second chance in the same life. This second chance in your life is full of hope, peace and a road to many victories. The road will not be smooth at times. It is a new beginning for everything. Understanding and learning more about God’s word. Learning how to strengthen your faith so that if and when you enter a storm, you will persevere through it. Ahhh….new life, new dreams and second chances. But the greatest gift of this new life is the gift of salvation and grace. Just knowing that no matter what happens, we will live eternally in Heaven with our Father. ~Tanya South
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
I am sure that you’ve heard many times that our minds are very powerful. This is very true. The mind can be the most peaceful place or it can be a war zone. In Phillipians 4:8…God’s word commands us to think of all that is good. Why do you think God commands this of us? He wants us to know He created us to be victorious, abundant, prosperous and to be truly loved. When your mind is filled with positive thoughts, you are thinking with clarity. Positive thinking is clear and negative thinking is blurry. Positive thinking leads to clear planning and being able to focus on executing those plans. Thinking positive makes you more resilient to failure because it doesn’t allow you to give up so easily. Positive thinking is saying, “I didn’t make it today, but I’m going to try it again a different way tomorrow.” Faith is related to thinking of good things. When you are in the middle of a storm, just like faith, positive thinking tells you:
•’this is temporary’
•’God will see me through this’
•’my victory day is coming’
•’this too shall pass’
•’this does not define me, I will make it’
I know it’s easier said than done, but even when you’re in the middle of a storm, think of how you will make it through the storm rather than how the storm will get the best of you. Think positive! ~Tanya South
Now all the glory to God who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Ephesians while imprisoned. God revealed the truth to him. Paul wrote without fear and with bold courage to spread this truth to all. What is impossible for God? Absolutely nothing. There are many things in the Bible that prove when faced with complete impossibility, God steps in and makes it possible. In the Old Testament, he promises Abraham and Sarah a son. Sarah, at one point, believes this is impossible especially being a much older woman well past her child bearing days, yet she gives birth to her promised child in her 90’s. Moses is commanded and led by God to save his people. He leads him to what seems like a dead end at the Red Sea. The people are confused and surely believe they will die. It’s impossible right? Wrong….God separates the Red Sea, he makes it possible to cross over in order to be saved. God indeed works His will into our lives. But God is doing a great work in us to glorify his “creation” which is us, his children; in turn He is glorified as our Creator. He is the one with unlimited power. Therefore, when we pray and believe, one must know that God supersedes our petitions to Him. He far exceeds our expectations. With much faith and prayer, He will multiply your request. Our very existence and universe was created with just a breath of God. What is too big for him? We are at times faced with sufferings and trials. God sometimes uses this time to push you to seek Him, rely on Him, trust Him, pray to Him. When you pray, you must believe and when the testing season is over, you will not only come out of it, you will come out strong and victorious! Just believe! ~Tanya South
Then the LORD replied: “Write down the vision and make it plain on paper so that he who reads it may run with it.”
Dreams really do come true. Whether they are big or small. God places hopes and dreams in our hearts because it’s His way of letting us know that we have everything it takes to make them come to light. Many of us are living a life of settling for less because we don’t believe we can accomplish big things. We don’t believe enough in ourselves. Sometimes, life just gets in the way. We can easily get side tracked with just day to day responsibilities. Many times you may have thoughts like:
•’oh, what was I thinking?’
•’ I can’t do that’
•’I don’t have the time’
•’I don’t have the money’
•’I’m not talented enough’
The thoughts of defeat start to make themselves comfortable in your mind. God did not build us to be defeated. As said in Phillipians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You must believe that you can do anything because God built you to complete the task of your dream. Do you have any specific goals? Something you want to accomplish today, tomorrow or this year? Do you think it’s too big of a dream? Not one dream is too big especially if God placed it in your heart and mind; because He equipped you to complete it. As said in Habakkuk 2:2, write down your visions, ideas, goals, future plans for your life…these are ideas given to you by Almighty God who has a plan; a great plan for your life. It says if you write them down, it’s a visual starting point to accomplishing each one from your list…First imagine it, then write it down and bring it to life.
So many of us write on paper a “things to do” list of simple tasks that need to get done for the day or for the week. This “things to do” list can be a parent’s list of tasks to complete for their family or a list at work of tasks that need to be done in the “office.” Well, this list can be re-worded as “life goals to accomplish” list. This list can contain a list of big goals that you have for your life even as impossible as they may seem, you still write them down. Next, you start working on each of those goals one by one. Or it may be one big goal that requires several steps and hard work. Nothing that is worth anything is going to come easy, but if you keep going & do all you can; your dream or goal will be accomplished. Write it down and run with it! ~Tanya South
